The Hotel Lutetia has a lot of things going for it, but it's best feature is its location, right at the cusp of the Latin Quarter, my favorite part of Paris (so far at least!).

The rooms tend to vary. My parents had a suite, which was very nice, quite large, and had two small balconies, both with views of the Eiffel Tower. It was a beautiful room. We had two standard King rooms as well. One had a pretty view of the inner courtyard of the hotel, but had a small bathroom with a makeup-and-dressing area. The other was the same size but was laid out differently, with a much larger bathroom but no makeup-and-dressing area, and unfortunately had the view of the back of a building.

But that said, the rooms were all clean, the bathrooms very nice... everything about staying at the Lutetia was very nice.

The best surprise: unbelievably good WiFi for a hotel. There are wireless routers dotting the top of the hallways, and I had no trouble getting a solid signal at all times, which is important when you're overseas and trying to plan your days. It's not the fastest, but I can live with that when I travel.

The only downside of the Hotel Lutetia is the food, and the price thereof. The attached brasserie unfortunately fell below par, and cost far more than it should (though I suppose some of that cost is for the convenience of having it so closeby). The bar food... well let's just say I didn't look very closely and spend $56 on two kinda-awful sandwiches.

So long story short, stay here, enjoy how close it is to the Latin Quarter, enjoy how beautiful it is outside (though the art inside is a bit confusing).... but don't eat here :)

Hotel Lutetia offers good service. The staff is very nice and accommodating. It's also in an excellent location. The bed (at least in my room) was VERY comfortable. But, that's about all it has going for it. Breakfast at the hotel was crazy expensive (28 euros), so I opted to have breakfast in a small bakery every morning where I could just get a cafe creme and a croissant (at much more reasonable prices). The rooms are very small, but it is a European hotel so that could be expected. However, the rooms are also very stuffy, and the bathrooms are horrible. The blow drier didn't dry much, and the temperature of the water in the shower would consistently change from hot to cold. It's right on top of the metro, which apparently you can hear on the first few floors. I could even hear it all the way up on the 6th floor, but not to the point where it was an issue.

From a historic point of view, this hotel apparently used to Gestapo HQ during WWII.

I was so looking forward to my stay at the Lutetia...it is a landmark hotel on the left bank, next to one of my favourite department stores (Le Bon Marche). The building is beautiful Art Deco, and the hotel has had a plethora of amazing guests - DeGaulle spent his wedding night there...

The whole experience was a total disappointment. Yes the hotel is very well located and looks beautiful from the outside, but the service is poor and the rooms are tired and tiny.

I checked in late around 11:30 pm and could not find anyone at reception. It took the porter 15 minutes to locate someone who could help. My room was so small that I struggled to put my (little) suitcase on the floor. The decor was nice but faded and a bit tatty. The bathroom had broken tiles and could do with serious rejuvenation.
Noisy, not very comfortable, and too expensive for the quality of the room.

Shame that such a gorgeous building does not manage to match the appearance with delivery.

We stayed here for our 25th anniversary and were VERY happy. The concierge spoke perfect English and was super helpful with no oversell. They were happy to give you marked maps to find your way and good insider advice. The location is magical for walking with La Bon Marche and the metro is across the street. It is a wonderful place to walk, shop and dine. Our room was on the top floor and had a tiny balcony that overlooked the Eiffel Tower and the city where we spent hours drinking wine and celebrating that view. The history of the hotel is very interesting. It was occupied by the German officers and therefore well maintained throughout the war. It's a real piece of French history, a beautiful hotel, an incredible location, with beautiful rooms and exceptionally comfortable beds. I would love to have the chance to stay here again.

Hotel Lutetia is a beautiful hotel located in the heart of St. Germain des Pres; hence, it was very convenient to walk to/from some of my favorite areas and attractions in Paris, most of which are in the Left Bank. The rooms are a little small in comparison to other hotels at same price point, but the charm and the friendliness of the staff more than made up for it.

My wife and I had been at the Luetia 8 years ago, which was wonderful.
We were there this year (2014) from Jan 24th to Feb 1st. It was a completely different experience, as it was one of the worse weeks we ever spent in a hotel. I don't know where to start.
Unfortunately Paris was wet and cold - when we came via taxis to the entrance to the hotel, even when it was raining, the doormen were inside. An umbrella was an unknown object- they were without apology.
The concierge gave my wife wrong instructions for the metro. If you could not speak french they were rude.
The front desk was spotty- there were some people there who were helpful.
The only part of the hotel that was first rate and superlative was the lobby and the service, including the musical groups.
Breakfast was a maze of confusion and there was no attempt to help new guests navigate the maze of the dining room.

Adorable old school hotel, frayed on the edges but great location. Stayed here for 6 days last June on a siteseeing trip to introduce my mother to Paris. Being in Paris with a first-timer is always fun, so we were off to a good start. The best part of Lutetia is the location, ideal left-bank location in the 6th/7th. The St. Germain area is nice to stay in and feel genuinely immersed in Paris, but not surrounded by commercial hustle and bustle. The train station is on the corner, lots of shops and cafes for breakfast nearby and easy commutes to the typical places. I don't think we went anywhere that took us more than 20 minutes to get to from Lutetia by Paris metro. Staff is helpful and approachable, they are used to non-European tourists. Service is good and the live music in the lobby lounge was always pleasant after a day of non-stop walking. If you're celebrating something, let them know. We had a non-renovated room that was old but charming and very spacious. Don't eat here though, there's no reason to with all the nearby options anyway. Oh, if you ask for a room facing the Raspail, closer to the corner, you will have great views of the Eiffel Tower.
