Fountain Harvester

Good food I miss the salad bar you now have to be served by someone which feels uncomfortable as it's not setup like a salad counter just feels odd I won't be rushing back

We went to the Fountain Harvester for dinner one night and were taken in by the 2 for £10 half rotisserie chicken that comes with the salad bar. My friend and I both wanted the chicken so we ordered that special. For the price and what we got, I would say definitely worth it. Not the best chicken, but not too dry either. My husband had a steak - which was a mistake as it was expensive for the cut of meat that it was. The steak was barely edible as it was mostly gristle.

That issue aside, the reason that they got the rating comes to the establishment. We had reservations. Still, it took us forever to get sat and then for a server to actually acknowledge the table after we were sat. The menus that we were given needed a good wipe down as it had gross smears of food on it from who knows what. The server when she did get to us didn't know what the day's specials were so she had to go back and forth about the chicken special even though we showed her the paper were given when we were sat by the hostess. Server never came around to top up waters or to check on the meal once the dishes were served. For all these things, I knocked it down a peg. Had the steak been edible, this would have been a decent meal at a great price. Instead it just made us realize we won't be back to a Harvester - now that we know its a chain. Thanks but we'll stick to chains like Bill's or Miller and Carter instead.

A good modern harvester - had some dinner here food was good not the best but good - the service had great customer service but the waiting time was longer than it should have been - after being seated pretty much instantly we waited around 15 min before anyone seeing us and it wasn't that busy considering. The all you can eat free salad was good the bowls were a little small but everything was fine - the main meal was a nice presentation I had the brasserie chicken with corn on cob and chips the only thing was the chicken didn't taste super hot it felt more warm which is ok as it is edible but from the brasserie I expected really hot food. I ordered some extra sweet potato fries and these tasted fantastic - overall average meal and ok prices

I was pleasantly surprised by this Harvester, having met some dodgy ones in the past. The building is a nice traditional thatched pub. The bar and restaurant areas are both quite large, and there is seating outside in good weather.


I was pleasantly surprised by the menu, the basic format is: pick a grilled meat, choose a sauce, add a side of your choice (rice, mash, jacket potato, fries, etc) and a salad. The nice thing it is that all the menu items include a calorie figure, so you can chose to have a full rack of ribs at 1240kcal or a spit-roast chicken for 310kcal.


The food was very tasty, and the famous salad cart was good too.


Good sized car park, relatively healthy food and they do take-away: recommended.

AS anyone who has ever been to a Harvester says the salad is amazing and indeed it is amazing.


The atmosphere in this harvester is really nice and it feels very warm and welcoming. The staff are all really nice and can give you great recommendations on what to order. Personally I go for the platters which are great value for money .


It is reasonably priced, parking is ample and free and you will have a really nice meal. The food is all very nice, well cooked and hot. I always go here with my family as it has a real family vibe. Very nice.

The food is flame grilled and cooked as you like it. Their salad cart is fantastic with a good range to choose from.


The atmosphere is very welcoming, the staff friendly and the portions are large and very tastey.

If you have ever been to a Harvester, you will know all about their great salad carts and this restaurant is no exception. Lots of choice and the children enjoy choosing their own (with a close and carefull eye to make sure my youngest doesn't just pile his plate with cucumber) they have two very different but very nice sauces available, blue cheese; very tangy and lovely on the salad and something called red devil, very nice quite sweet but lovely on top of the cold pasta from the salad cart. For those not used to the Harvester the salad cart is free with your main meal and as soon as you have placed your order you are welcome to all troop up and help yourself. As well as the usual salady bits they have other yummies like fresh bread, garlic croutons, dried crispy onions mmm lovely.


The food is flame grilled so the meat is very tasty and cooked as you like it. Again huge portions here (seems like all our favourite restaurants have large portions!!!) So think carefully before ordering a starter! They have platters to share with a bit of everything usually including onion rings and corn on the cob (it's the little touches) ribs, chicken (their own spit roast) steak (again with a multitude of sauces availble), also availble some lovely pasta & fish dishes.


They do lovely drink combinations, in the winter they served hot chocolate with baileys and cream very nice and during the summer months they have some really lovely fruit juice combinations.


They have recently had an extention built and a bit of a refit, excellent idea as they tend to get very busy at the weekends. Slightly more expensive than some of my other reviews but really worth it.

Being that I am American, the whole concept/stigma surrounding a Harvester escapes me. So this review is actually completely unbiased. My husband and his father love a Harvester and I have to admit, I don't mind it every once in a while. We have been to one other, but I think this one is actually pretty nice. From what I understand, this used to be an old pub and they converted it (which you can tell by the exceptionally low ceilings/door frames and the exposed beams). Anyway, the salad cart is alright - if you like iceberg lettuce and drowning your salad in bleu cheese or thousand island dressing (like we do) - and the food is relatively cheap (like a tenner for a main) with moderately good service. Overall, I can't complain about the Harvester and I do love the hot sauce they serve with their grilled chicken meal. Being a person that enjoys their mouth being on fire whilst they eat, it meets my expectations.

Quick service, great food and value for money! Can't get better than that. Very happy. :-)

We had a very enjoyable dinner grilled chicken and we used the salad to accompany our main course it's great for people on slimming clubs as you can fill up on the salad for free with little sins.
