I love Maru..
The sushi, noodle and rice plates, tea's, soups, service, everything is good.
In my opinion, it's (like most asian places) not really suited for a long, fancy dinner but it's perfect for a quick dinner with a friend or partner.
Customers vary, from squatters who live around the corner to trendy / hip creativesHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype User (annaso…)Berlin, Deutschland215123. Jan. 2010
This is a restaurant that serves ordinary korean food that tastes extraordinary good! The youngsters who works there are really cool and super friendly. It's so cheap that you don't have to check the prices. So you can try a lot of things from the menu in one sitting.
Their kimchi is the best I've ever had, so you have to try it when you go there!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Enta K.Berlin, Deutschland1595616. Apr. 2010
Food here is excellent - five stars. I often buy take-away.
The restaurant loses a star because of the atmosphere - it never really takes off in Maru, no matter how full it is. My tip: Change the music (usually some stiff jazz) and turn up the volume a bit. As it is now, guests are whispering over their tables in order not to be heard by the whole quiet restaurant.
The water is a bit pricey: 2 euro for 25 cl is 50 cent more than the silent agreement about what we F-hain guests want to pay for water - seriously, we'd rather add the last 50 to the tip.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype User (valtyn…)Berlin, Deutschland5112. Okt. 2011
Very good consistent quality food, ok staff, however I wasn't amused by the service last Friday evening as I had to wait almost an hour for food.
They may have/ may not have had staffing issues, however it would have been nice to have received an explanation in between. As I became increasingly annoyed, I decided to change my order to a takeaway as my evening was already ruined plus didn't feel like spending any more for drinks!
I will go back there again, but definitely not at peak times !Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Meghan F.Berlin, Deutschland107861326. März 2015
Maru is a nice little neighborhood restaurant just a block off Frankfurter Allee that has Korean favorites at a good price. The interior of the restaurant is kind of cozy with small tables, although the lighting is a little bright. The menu has a lot of options for soups, fingerfoods and entrees. The prices are pretty good at about €7-12 per entree, and the sushi prices seemed very reasonable.
We started with a delicious vegetable pancake and some edamame - very tasty! They are very simple dishes but they were done well. For entrees, we got a pork and a chicken dish in spicy soy bean sauce. Both came with a side of rice and some salad (with yummy dressing). I was really pleased with how many vegetables were mixed in with the meats! They also served it with a few banchan; that night it was cold potatoes and green beans (yum) and another small plate of broccoli and mushrooms.
Overall it was a nice meal and I would certainly go back to Maru again.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - John L.Berlin, Deutschland2385. Okt. 2015
Its not bad. Had the kimchi dol sot bibimbap. It way too greasy but the flavor was all there and nice. No banchan though :\. Service is good, restaurant is 7/10 on cleanliness.

The food might be good, but I wouldn't know because they closed the kitchen an hour and a half before closing time. We sat down for a few minutes and nobody noticed us, so we got up and asked a woman behind the counter if we could take some cushions outside. The woman looked at us like we were crazy, and simply said "no". When we asked why, she explained that the kitchen was closed, in a tone implying that it was common knowledge that they had closed the kitchen at 10:30 when they don't close until 12.

very nice korean restraurant, with comfortable and bright seating. The menu looks really good, with lots of japanses and korean sushi choices at surprisingly reasonable prices.
I ate a very tasty dish of fried beef in rice with kimchi and other vegetables - everything was well flavoured with the vegetables retaining a nice crunch. I washed it all down with a Krusovice black lager, with the bill coming to a little under 10euros.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype User (robing…)Berlin, Deutschland8203. Jan. 2010
Best Korean in Friedrichshain, possibly in Berlin. I've never understood why everybody goes to My when this place is in the same area. Charming family resturant. I would recommend getting a reservation, the place is pretty popular...for good reasons!
