MEININGER Hotel London Hyde Park

Hadn't stayed in a hostel in forever but this one is a good one. Met some great people and the location is excellent. Close to the District, Circle, and Piccadilly lines and literally across the street from the Natural History Museum. Rack of Boris bikes outside the front door.

Some notes: bring your own towels or rent from the front desk. Bring your own (larger) locks for the in room lockers - they neither sell nor rent locks upfront. Huge deficiency, in my eyes.

Bad quality.
The Knives in the morning were wet and dirty. In the bathroom, there's mold on the ceiling. The employees weren't helpful when we asked them for clean towels and they didn't cleaned our room when we asked them to.
Downstairs it's clean.

The view of the fab Natural History Museum across the street said "London." The bathrooms said "Tokyo." But at least, we had a private bath in our room, which is unusual for hostel-rate lodging. The Meininger was well-located in the Hyde Park area of London, and it was clean and nice. The front desk folks were cordial and helpful, particularly in arranging our cab back to Heathrow. I'd highly recommend this hotel for the traveler who wants a good location and great value.

I would like to voice my concerns staying in this hostel.
While it's location is quite beautiful and clean, for me the thing that is most important for me is feeling welcome as a traveller.

And, that's just not the case here.
The staff is neither helpful or nice, more the contrary.

I was in the unfortunate position of getting my passport stolen today, and when I noticed that checking in, the only answer I got was that checking in is now not possible anymore. I can totally understand the rules a hostel has to live by, but after having a conversation with my embassy, they made clear that a copy in combination with my student id should be suitable for checking in under these circumstances. (It was sunday - with a closed embassy).
I am really disappointed hearing and dealing with this - and especially how unprofessional it was dealt with.

So, travellers, spend your money somewhere else! That's not where you want to land, in a sometimes not so perfect and hassle free travel world. NOT RECOMMENDED AT ALL.

I stayed here recently for 5 days to kickstart my vacation. This is a pretty nice hostel in th South Kensington area that is close to a couple of metro stations. I stayed in a 12 bed room which was new and well maintained and had 2 full bathrooms (though they are tiny at least there are 2 showers!). The room had stand up lockers that you could store your stuff in which was very nice (bring your own decent sized padlock). They also had small lockers for your most precious items that are right next to the 24 hour reception desk (for a 5 pound DEPOSIT) which I thought was very nice as well. The room was cleaned daily and I always had plenty of hot water (watch out though the faucet handel can be kind of tricky to turn off and on). As far as ambience I would not consider this a party hostel. It has a common area downstairs which is pretty chill and mainly consists of travelers using the free wi-fi. Overall the hostel was great and I found most employees to be curteous and friendly. I gave a four star review because they did however have one female graveyard employee who was very unfriendly and not very helpful overall and that dampered the experience...and in addition the Wi-Fi really only works in the Lobby common area not the whole hostel as advertised. Overall I would stay there again.
