This gallery is a must for anyone who appreciates art, as it contains some of the world's greatest paintings (from Van Gogh to William Turner to Rembrandt to Monet). You could literally spend hours just roaming the halls with Impressionists, let alone the rest of the 2,600+ strong collection of works.

PSA: It is strongly advised to book ahead of time as - especially during the holiday season - it can get busy and you might not find a slot that fits your schedule. It is free to visit, donation is optional. Finally, while you are at it, you might want to consider a visit to the adjacent National Portrait Gallery (same building, separate entrance and ticketing system).

The National Gallery is situated centrally in Trafalgar Square in Central London. It's been sitting there since 1838 and houses with thousands of pieces of art dating all the way back to the mid-13th century to the 1900s.

It houses so many fantastic pieces of work (both finished and unfinished) from the classic masters that you think of when you think of European Art. From Michaelangelo, Rembrandt, Picasso, Van Gough, Klimt, and more, you can easily get lost for hours just admiring the gorgeous pieces of art that are housed in one of the most stunning art museums I've been in, in such a long time.

I would highly recommend coming through here if you are an art lover as there is just so much to appreciate. One of the best parts of this museum is that the bathrooms in the basement are so clean and well-kept, they have cafes and eateries as well so you can take breaks as you need to ensure that you don't feel like you need to rush through the museum when you get hungry or need a break to refuel since the museum itself it quite large.

A fantastic museum located in a great location, one that's not to be missed.

I'm not a museum-goer, so this review is from the point of view of someone who got outvoted on what to do. Turns out, this place was actually pretty cool. Seeing some of these 10 million dollar-plus paintings in person was incredible.

It's my favorite free art gallery in London. So nice to visit old friends, my favorite paintings. A short line to gain entry, if you pre-book, you walk right in. A definite must when I visit London. Trafalgar square is a must also, fortunately right out in front of the museum. Free toilets.
Open every day 10 to 6, only closed on Christmas and New Year's Day. The Ochre bar and restaurant serves cocktails, lunch, and dinner. There is afternoon tea and an espresso bar, too.

A must-see! Located right next to the beautiful Trafalgar Square, the museum is filled to the brim with famous artwork and is a priceless experience that won't cost you a dime! Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Monèt... you'll see it all and be glad you did.

I can't state it enough, but this is a must-see when you're visiting London. It's FREE to enter, which is a huge rarity for this caliber of masterpiece art that they house here. In addition to the famous names (Monet, Van Gogh, Rembrandt, Seurat, Degas, you name it), the sheer quantity of amazing art here is something to see. It isn't nearly as big at the V&A, or anything like that, but they do have a ton of paintings here that you don't want to miss.
The gift shop is rather extensive as well, including things inspired by the collection, in addition to a lot of history-related books, etc.
Whether you're an art enthusiast, or just find it nice to look at, this is an experience your trip needs. I'm not great at planning what I want to see ahead of time, but their website is super helpful for that if you prefer.

This art museum houses over 2,300 paintings, in Trafalgar Square. This spectacular building was founded in 1824. Admission is free & walk up tickets are available to special exhibitions. International artists are showcased here; Picasso, Monet, Van Gogh, Rembrandt .... Again I could spend a week here. The massive gift shop, cafe & restaurant looked impressive too!

Such a cool art museum! You're going into the best art museum in the country and it really shows. Be sure to find a list about the paintings in the gallery so you can get to them before the crowd that I promise will show up. Speaking of crowds, reserve a ticket in advance! They're literally free, so just get a ticket online ahead of time so you don't need to wait in line for one at the door. It's silly seeing hundreds of people in a queue when they could have a had a ticket in two minutes with a couple of clicks. There are multiple gifts shops and a café in the museum. Special exhibits cost extra, meaning they're the only thing not free apart from the audioguide. Expect to spend 2-3 hours in the museum.

Loved visiting here, this summer while in London. Great collection of many different artists and so much to see. Very well organized, but if you don't pay attention, you're going to get lost trying to find what you're looking for. They have a Vermeer, some Money, Bellini, van Gogh, Michelangelo, Raphael,
and so many others you may not know but worth seeing. This kind of a collection was a surprise.

Admission is free so you can't beat that. My tip is always start at the top and work your way down. Also keep in mind this is NOT the National Portrait Gallery next door so they are two different places and you may want to make time to see both.

A great art museum. Collection has some really heavy hitter stuff. Building is pretty cool in and of itself. Not as extensive of a collection as some of the other great art museums in the world, but definitely one of the higher really cool works to items on display ratios around. You can't beat the price. Not sure if there is off hours but was quite crowded when I visited. Place worth checking out.
