My first sushi round-about! and boy was it fun (and a bit pricey)

right off the tube stop at Knightsbridge, we stopped here for a late lunch. I absolutely LOVE sushi, and this was a fun experience!!

You sit around a converyor belt that is constantly rotating with various types of sushi. You choose what you'd like and just take it off the belt. We had some interesting & unique pieces, as well as a seaweed salad & dessert.

YOu can also place an order for just about anything off the menu.

I've promised my wife yesterday was our last visit to Satori. Both branches(The Rotunda or inside Bentalls). I have been on both places at least 4/5 times but unfortunately every single visit we had problems. Average food for an expensive price, poor presentation, very slow and confused staff and always I mean always had to complain about wrong charges on my bill. Don't go there.

There seem to be a lot of big-chain-pretend-to-be restaurants around, and this is one of them. This ones like Yo Sushi, but a bit more (unnecessarily) expensive.

Tip: If you do ask for the unlimited green tea, it isn't the same as the refills you get at Yo Sushi, here you get a tea bag that you're expected to reuse. I'd taken my tea bag out and put it in my miso soup bawl not realising, and the waitress kindly put it back in my glass for me!

Quality of the food is good, and you have a "call for service" button at your station where you sit, that seemed to work! All round A-OK.

I was happy when this sushi place opened a couple of years ago. Convenient, I thought, when I wanted a quick, healthy snack. I've eaten there on many occasions...

The first time I visited I found the welcome warm, friendly and informative. The sushi was decent but not the best I've tasted. It was good enough for me to return but I admit I don't rush there with quite so much enthusiasm. On several visits, in the early afternoon, I found the sushi tasted a little tired; I guess it had probably revolved for a little too long on the conveyor belt.

If you want a very reasonably-priced lunch pay close attention to the colour coded plate charges or your bill can climb faster than you might expect. Admittedly though, if you do opt - intentionally or not - for the more lavish plates the food is often commensurately more interesting and tastier. If feasible, I'd award it three and a half stars...

This review is of the Rotunda Satori -

The food is not fresh. The sushi rice is NOT correct. Sushi rice is supposed to be fatter than usual rice and sticky... Satori's 'sushi rice' is hard and brittle.

I really had a terrible dinner there. I even wanted to leave before I had finished.

It also had an unclean feeling to it.

Satori is lame and a bad Japanese imposter!

Sushi and Japanese restaurant which is based in the 'Rotunda' in KIngston Upon Thames.

The rotunda is where the cinema, gym and other restaurants are based.

This place does pretty good sushi which is all made in house. Their handrolls and teriyaki beef are really good. I do think it is a bit expensive, but I think Sushi is in general.

This is ok for a quick bite before the cinema or after a film, but not for a longer length meal. The seating is all like a bar so you sit next to each other rather than opposite so its hard to chat to each other.

Food is pretty good though and service is always fast and efficient. I would go here again, but I wouldn't go out of my way to arrange a meal here.

Pretty average sushi, not so average prices. Some of the conveyor dishes were nice enough, but not exactly packed with flavour or freshness, which is surprising, as they're made right there. A good quick meal if you're waiting to see a film at the Odeon, but I wouldn't visit especially for Satori, frankly.

My wife and I are great fans of Japanese food, and have been here often. The quality of the individual dishes varies from average to excellent though never bad enough to put us off.

We once tried a platter (rather than relying on the conveyor belt) and it was delicious. We will return which I guess says a lot.

      Reasonable value for money.

This review refers to the Knightsbridge branch, but judging from what other users say, it probably applies to the other restaurants as well.

First of all, the higher-than-average prices are not reflected on the quality of the food, least of all on the service. If you do decide to go (but after my last visit, I would strongly recommend other destinations), expect to shell out quite a few hard-earned pounds. Hot courses are more affordable, but sushi/sashimi/nigiri are only available in combined platters that tend to be a bit pricey (for instance, a chirashi - rice bowl with raw fish on top - will cost you 17 quid, while it averages 11-13 elsewhere. And don't fall for the kaiten conveyor: even though it might be fun, your bill won't be as amusing as you pay per dish, ranging from about 2 GBP for the tiny white plates (usually containing one single maki roll) to 6 GBP for the (equally tiny) baby-blue plates, which offer little more.

I went twice because I had two vouchers from a GroupOn / CItyDeals offer, each valid for two people: for 16 GBP (8 each) we got 40 pounds worth of food and two soft drinks each time. The first time we had a very pleasant experience, I have to admit it; good food, good service and basically the entire restaurant to ourselves as it was almost closing time. I still don't understand why they sat us at the kaiten, which offers very limited space, when all tables were free (including the charming room downstairs, which even features a sort of zen garden), but we had a good time anyway.

Our second (and last) visit, however, was exactly the opposite. We were served by the most impolite and unnerving waitress ever, crammed at the kaiten once again, without so much as a napkin and chopsticks (I had to retrieve them myself, "stealing" them from a nearby table). As I only eat salmon and tuna, I asked the waitress if I could have just those two on top my chirashi instead of the "fish selection" indicated in the menu, to which she bluntly answered "No." I was very surprised as the last time I had made the same request and not only was it granted, but I also received a specially made "flower" of tuna and salmon on top of my rice. I explained three times that I had been using the same voucher, but she just got ruder and ruder, pretended to ask the chef and then said that if I had been paying full price they would have been interested in "making customer happy", but since I was using the voucher they had no interest in that. I have never been treated like that in a restaurant - so much for Asian politeness! I ended up getting the chirashi anyway, which came with shrimps, octopus and other stuff I don't eat and with some weird powder on it that completely altered its regular taste.

The waitress was such a jerk that we ended up dealing with her colleague, but we did witness her arguing with a French couple, presumably about some extra fees on their bills.

Obviously, as they would say, I have no interest in going back - and neither should you.
