Here's the good news. The owner was very nice.
That's all.
Bad news: The food. It was just plain gross. I have had bad Indian food before...this was worse.
This place proves that badly cooked overseasoned chicken, flavorless rice, and dry old bread served with a smile doesn't make it any better.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Katy O.Hennepin, Vereinigte Staaten171312. Jan. 2010Erster Beitrag
So a friend and I went out last night looking for something spicy and decided that Indian was the direction we had to go. After driving around a little I remembered this place that had showed up by Cub foods in the old Apache Plaza area.
When it opened it went on my list of places to visit, but since the area has such a strip mall-like feel - I normally don't think of eating there. Wow was I missing out.
The atmosphere isn't very warm physically (the space had originally been an Italian cafeteria style variation), but emotionally it was very welcoming. We were greeted immediately by a gentleman who I assume must have been the owner. He entertained us with a cute story of how he ended up putting Bell's Two Hearted on the beer list (due to a customer - well - demand).
We ordered the 4 curry sampler that came with naan and rice. They gave us chutney when we requested it (India Palace always charges for it which annoys me).
The food was fantastic. The heat was exactly what we wanted and expected. The flavors were lovely! And the rice pudding we had for dessert was awesome with just the right amount of cardemon brightening it up.
Our server was also super nice and funny.
Overall - I'd highly recommend checking this place out. Especially since I'm not sure whether the neighborhood will appreciate it!
Head up to the N boarder of NE Mpls and check it out. It's not as far out of town as you'd think.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jarrin W.Rock Island, Vereinigte Staaten715356719. Juni 2010
Agree that the place is a little out of the way but that is about the only bad thing I can comment upon in this review.
Atmosphere: nice, spacious restaurant space. Seemed clean in both of my visits. TVs with cricket or other Indian programming made the space feel unique in a way.
Service: Wonderful wait-staff on both visits. Attentive and friendly.
Food: Definitely the best part of the visit! The naan was simply to die for, as was the Chicken Tikka Masala. The rice is a nice compliment. I brought a friend on my second visit and order the CTM in addition to a dish she wanted... she preferred the CTM though wasn't unhappy with her selection (I can't recall what it was). She ordered extra CTM and naan to take home so her husband could try the food.
I haven't been for the buffet but I suspect I will try it when I return for a third visit with different friends. I would highly recommend this anyone and don't feel the need to visit any other Indian restaurants here in the Cities.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Heidi O.Elk River, Vereinigte Staaten155569330. Just tried the lunch buffet and was pleasantly surprised. The decor - as someone else mentioned - isn't very "warm," but the food was quite good.
The chickpea dish was fantastic, as was their mixed vegetable curry and the beef dish (sorry, can't remember all the names) -- and the naan was great, too. I know someone reported dry bread, but mine was not at all - warm and good.
Wasn't a huge fan of the chicken tikka masala or the tofu/spinach dish - but everything else was wonderful.
I would definitely go back!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Joe E.St Paul, Vereinigte Staaten0151. Nov. 2010
Slow slow slow. Kitchen staff seem to be very confused at 5pm on Saturday. Ordered takeout and very slow. No one else in there.
Food was bad. Chicken Curry was okay, but they were waiting on the Nan and the nan was mushy and uncooked. I think they hurried and tried to send it off uncooked. Don't waste your time. Go to India Palace in Roseville. Its worth the five minute drive.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Desi D.Sonoma, Vereinigte Staaten01020. Dez. 2010
This restaurant tried to entice people initially with the offer of super cheap buffet ($4.99) which had gone up for more than twice the price when we visited the restaurant (they still had promotions all over the place for the older price though).
Even at the higher price, the food was tasteless, cold and bland. Even if you disregard the bait and switch tactic used by the restaurant, this is one place that you are better off staying away from!
Recommendation:
Stay away!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kent S.Minneapolis, Vereinigte Staaten0928. Jan. 2010
We wanted to like this, being so close to home and all. In the end I think we'd rather get take out from Great Dragon. The "shrimp" in my wife's meal consisted of 4 very small pieces. Lame. The chicken portion was a leg and a thigh on the bone. Uber lame. My meal was boneless chicken, but there was ample non-edible gristle to make it lame as well.
Final verdict : we won't be back.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jennifer K.Saint Paul, Vereinigte Staaten364177. Jan. 2011
Located in New Brighton, off of Silver Lake Boulevard-right in the middle of Chain Central.
I was pleasantly surprised by this place. Not exactly authentic feeling, (although the Bollywood videos on flat screen was a nice touch) but this place was pretty good. We had samosas and ordered two orders, thinking they would be small. They were huge-each order had three large ones each. We were unable to finish them. We had both the veggie and chicken, and they were both good.
We shared an order of the chicken tikki masala, which was small, but it was fine. The sauce was very good. It came with a large bowl of basmati rice and veggies. The service was very nice, but forgetful. We seemed to have to ask them to bring out each thing we ordered-because they kept forgetting. Odd. We ended up not even getting our naan, it was too much trouble.
Overall, not bad. It wasn't very crowded, and it was very reasonable-even cheap. This place would be just fine to bring kids-it's very casual, but a notch up from Noodles and Company. If you're in the area, it's a much better option than the Applebee's or Culver's next door.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Denise S.Saint Paul, Vereinigte Staaten47313. Aug. 2010
Went there for lunch and ordered from the regular menu because I'm not big on buffets. The food was fabulous! We had the Shrimp 65 as an app and it was very tasty. Our entrees were the Lamb Vindaloo and the Tikka Steak and both were excellent. The service was attentive and the food presentation very good. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who liked Indian food.

The buffet was average. Nan was burnt, and not much for variety.
I realize you never get the best quality with a buffet. I use a buffet for convenience when in a hurry and also as an opportunity to try out what a new place has to offer. This lets me know where we should go to dinner later. I would never make a trip to this place based on the buffet. My first choice would be to drive over to India House on Central. India House is $5 vs $7.50 and has a lot more options. If I was looking entirely at the best quality I would then run to India Palace, but its important to know that India Palace is a lot more expensive.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
